Three old castles are located along the Birsig River in Benken, Bottmingen and Binnigen. The castle of Bottmingen has been kept almost in its original form. In the middle of the 14th century, it was owned by the Episcopal family and in 1409 it was destroyed. Today, it is one of the landmarks of the region.
